Not to be nit-picky, but "death grip" was "Antennagate" -- what's the "etc" part you mean? It's like you wanted to create a list of Apple problems, so you mentioned the one biggee TWO DIFFERNT WAYS and then stuck on "etc" to make is seem like oddles and oddles of problems ... Like we wouldn't notice! Ha! :D didn't fool me!
You must be a teacher at school or something. LOL

I did laugh at your post. :D

The problem with situations like this is that it's not the ones which go right (ie the victim gets saved by employees) which dictate the policy, it's the ones which go bad and end up in a lawsuit or something similarly bad for the company which do.

You sound like I am against it.

Yes. You sounded like one. But apologies if you weren't.

In my opinion, dashboard is coming with iOS 5.0.

Apple did incorporate dashboard in iPhone OS 1.0 with the first iPhone but due to issues with performance they had to remove it.

This can be verified by debugging and going through iPhoneOS 1.0; navigating to /Library/Widgets folder. It was empty though.

Personalization is good. But the way its done on Android is ridiculous.
+ Widgets should always be sandboxed, the way they are in Dashboard.
[Both Google & MS failed to understand that btw]

I think personalization is good till the time it hinders the brand and brand quality. Folders/Wallpaper[:p] were one way to achieve that. There 'might' be more in the future but I highly doubt that.

All I can vouch for is that dashboard is coming in iOS 5.0.

Personalization in its entirety? Never in iOS 5.0.

That is unacceptable. But I'll also say that the problems experienced by people in NYC and SF have created a negative perception of AT&T that isn't accurate for most of the country. I've taken my iphone to a lot of places (to name a few: Orlando, DC, Indianapolis, New Hampshire, Maine, Houston) and had very good service (by which I mean as good as what my gf has had on her verizon phone) everywhere. I live in Boston, and the 3G speeds could be faster, but I do always have 3G and have very few dropped calls.

None of this is to suggest 30% dropped calls in a major city is Ok - it's clearly not, and if I lived in NYC or SF, I probably wouldn't have an iphone. But I wouldn't hesitate to recommend AT&T to people who lived in most other places.

This is actually an incorrect report that Microsoft has tried to correct, but it keeps getting reported.

Not exactly. This is a correct report that Microsoft has tried to cloud and cover up. Essentially, Vista will be licensed on a two-machine basis, with some basic restrictions (like all software has). Nothing new there.

What's new, and what is actually a correct report, is that MS has addressed the use of their OS in a virtual environment which was never completely addressed before in their EULA and terms of use. Because virtual environments are technically different than system installs, it was a grey area. Now they are explicitly banning such use for users of any version other than the premium level. Whether or not it will be "technically" illegal, but still possible, or if it will be impossible without piracy, remains to be seen.

It's not particularly earth shattering or shocking one way or the other. All companies have their dirty little ways to make an extra buck or keep you paying them long after you should. Apple does it too.

From a business perspective, it's really not a terrible strategy by MS if they want to keep customers. The Intel Mac switch has opened the door for PC diehards to take the plunge to a Mac without the risk of being away from their cherished Windows environment. Making Vista difficult, or at least expensive, to install on these new Macs is actually not a bad strategy for MS to keep some customers iffy about making the switch. Sucks for us, but it's certainly not the first time it's been done, by MS, Apple, Adobe, or any other company.

Two companies I really don't care for.

Apple makes some sweet hardware (hence I visit this site) but they seriously lack in the software programming and ethical department.

Samsung makes some crappy TVs (I really don't know why they have such a good reputation for TVs, I've got two of them and they look like crap in comparison to my $400 Emerson), not to mention crappy cell phones that are guaranteed to break in a year. (I've gone through three, 1st the slider started to stick, 2nd one the speaker on it broke, and the 3rd one it would double entry the 6 key when I tried to text).

Good for samsung though for trying to strike back for that ridiculous suit Apple did about the Galaxy.

There is no reason in the world for Apple NOT to introduce the new iPhone at WWDC...except for the possibility that they are disastrously behind in development. Which would be simply embarrassing.

There are lots of reasons, but posting them is pointless.

Apple has nothing to be embarrassed about.

Apple refurbed are the best you can find in most cases.

Apple never puts previously damaged hardware on the refurbed store, only open boxed then returned products, or products at End Of Life (EOL). You will find TONS of the previous models on there for 15% off or more.

Any damaged goods always get parted out and used as Genius Bar parts for repair.

There are TONS of things I don't like about Apple, but they actually do refurbished good very very well.I strongly suggest against a refurbished model of older revisions. It is similar to purchasing a Core 2 model. The base 21.5" Sandy Bridge once it hits refurb would be tempting at ~$999.

Right, which is why I really need to wait for the Pro, just to see if it's price is reasonable, and if it really makes it a worthy and expandable option over the iMac.

I would've chosen the iMac over the Mac Pro in the last iteration of either machine. This new iMac is making the "expandable" option a little more moot.

I will learn how to solder and service an iMac if it saves me $1000+
This is the first worthwhile iMac solely based on the stillborn potential of Thunderbolt and the quad on the base models. It only took 5 years.

Does anyone have any previous experience of buying WWDC tickets from eBay?

If I can find a reasonably-priced one then I might go for it, but I don't want to get turned away at the door :(

From a moral standpoint, I can't be happy that he is dead. No one deserves to die. He should have spend the rest of his life in a prison cell, waking up every day to the realization that he failed.

However, I'll grant you that if someone was a ****** member of society, it's that douche.

EDIT: Also, HAH! The Democrats got him!

Jesus christ. You presented your point as "obvious fact" then it was knocked back to pure conjecture, and now you've gone straight to whining that you feel disallowed your opinion, because *gasp* someone on the internet disagreed.

    Grow up.

Fair enough, not fact but a blatantly obvious observation which by no means is false, as others have agreed. It may be difficult for you to put things in perspective, perhaps due to the strong emotion after watching what unfolded.

it looks to me that we are still ranked 59. and the next group is about to pass us!

but yes, talking about it more here helps out quite a bit. the more we interact here, the better

We lost our spot again. We passed Team Lithuania for a brief time as yesterday was a big day for us and a bad one for them.

Yeah, and forget the 8 core Cloverton... now we're waiting on 16 cores with Tigerton: http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=4659

It sure beats Motorola/IBM's PowerPC slow update schedule. ;)

Tigerton (Xeon MP) is a different product line than what any of the current Apple offerings use. Until we hear differently, I don't expect we will be seeing Tigerton in any Macs.

Iv'e had both good and bad luck with Hitachi, Seagate and WD. Currently installing the Seagate Momentus XT 500GB drive :D So far it's silent! All my Hitachi's have been clicking. Although last year I purchased a Seagate drive and it clicked very badly so..

Well Apple has used up all the "big cat" names like Tiger and Lion which means that either OS 11 is underway or they will be in the embarassing situation of having to use lesser cat names which imply "less".

    Ocelot, Cheetah, Cougar, Fluffy, etc......

I for one am ready for OS 11.0 "Merlot"

    Merlot - I like it!
